Tanja Verlak – “Ponoć u Bombayu”
Artist statement / izjava autorice:
We tend to think about the world in terms of is. Being certain about its presence we say: ‘that which is, is that which exists’. Yet, if the only certainty was the certainty of that, which is foreseen, thus of that which we cannot but take subjectively and emotionally, how could we know of any relations to the real? The world nonetheless performs differently for ‘me’ than it does for other people and such an absolute certitude would have been nothing but an illusion of the world that can never be. Even though we all might look at the same man and the same flames, it is the relationship between the two, which makes it one’s particular reality. Anything seems to become everything in relation to something else.

O autorici:
Tanja Verlak je slovenska fotografkinja. Trenutno je na doktoratu pri Royal Collage of Art u Londonu. Fokus njezina istraživanja je reprezentacija kulturološki određenog šoka i fenomena magičnog u fotografij. BA i MA studije u sferi dokumentarne fotogafije završila je na FAMU, Academy of Performing Arts u Pragu te M.Phil. sa School of Arts and Aesthetics, Jawaharlal Nehru University u New Delhiju. Za vrijeme studija bila je gost predavač na Jamia Millia Islamia University, Mass Communication Research Centre, a predavala je i na Devi Art Foundation. Odnedavno je i asistent profesure i predavanja na fotografskim kursevima. Izlagala je i izdavala svoje radove na internacionalnoj sceni, između ostalog na Paris Poto, Museum of Contemporary Art Siegen, Camera Austria International, Revolver Revue, National Museum of Photography… Osvajala je nagrade i nominamcije, i dobitnica je niza različitih školarina i grantova, kao što su Zois Scholarship for Gifted Students, Tata Grant i Project-based Grant koje dodijeljuje Ministarstvo kulture Republike Slovenije.
